Breast reduction; It is done to eliminate the discomfort felt due to the fact that the breasts are larger than normal. This operation is performed for the purpose of removing some of the fat and skin part that gives fullness to the breasts and to ensure the proportion of the breasts with the body, that is, their harmony.
Due to the advanced breast size and weight, it causes problems such as leaning the body forward, back and spine pain, bone deformations, rash or wounds under the breast, not being able to find suitable clothes for height and weight.
As with any surgery on this scale, breast reduction has certain risks. Although precautions are taken against all of these, unforeseen situations may occur, but the necessary interventions to overcome all of them will be carried out by the surgical team.
Breast reduction surgery is performed with the aim of physical relaxation rather than cosmetic improvement. Most candidates for surgery have problems with very large, sagging breasts; activities were restricted and physical discomfort occurred. The most suitable candidates for this surgery are people who have reached the maturity and maturity to fully understand the procedure and have realistic expectations.
To insert the breast implant, your surgeon may make a single cut (incision) in one of three possible locations:
In the crease under your breast (inframammary)
Under your arm (axillary)
Around your nipple (periareolar)
After the incision is made, the surgeon will separate your breast tissue from the muscles and connective tissue of your chest. This creates a pocket behind or in front of the outermost muscle of the chest wall (pectoral muscle). The surgeon will place the implant in this pocket and center it behind the nipple.
Saline implants are placed empty and then filled with sterile saline after placement. Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel.
After the implant is in place, the surgeon will close the incision (the incision he made) with sutures and bandage it with skin glue and surgical tape. Choosing the incision site is important to minimize scar formation.
Post-surgery is usually comfortable. Pain is minimal. There may be limitation in arm movements. A bra-like wrap is applied on the breasts or some surgeons put a bra on immediately after surgery. Usually, drains are placed in both breasts and removed within 24-72 hours. A separate dressing is placed on the nipple. The dressing is opened after 2 days and the wound is controlled. After 7 days, the dressings are opened. Stitches are removed after 7-10 days. You will stay in the hospital for 1-3 days. The patient is put on a sports bra for 6 weeks and massage is recommended. There may be swelling in the early period, numbness in the nipple and purplish discoloration on the skin. These disappear on their own in a short time.
During breast reduction surgery, the milk-producing glands are largely preserved and breastfeeding can be done, but it should be informed that there is no guarantee that this is an outcome.
The patient can return to work after 1 week. It is recommended to stay away from heavy sports for 3 months. Aesthetic breast reduction surgery is an operation that gives good and permanent results in general, improves the mental health of the person and his partner, makes them more connected to life, and especially facilitates the dressing style of the woman. The newly shaped breast can keep its shape for a long time, but weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding and gravity can cause breast volume increase and sagging.
