Breast augmentation is the enlargement of the existing breast volume by placing a prosthesis under the breast tissue. During the breast augmentation process, the breast tissue should be recovered simultaneously against sagging and looseness, if any.
Breast augmentation can change the size and shape of your breasts. Surgery can change the image of your body and increase your self-confidence. Weight gain or loss after surgery can also change the appearance of your breasts.
Breast augmentation surgery is most often performed to increase breast size in women who are dissatisfied with their breast size. Apart from this, breast augmentation surgery can be performed for different reasons.
Breast augmentation surgery can be performed to support the recovery of sagging and loosing breasts after breastfeeding or serious weight loss.
Breast augmentation surgery can be performed to provide breast volume to women whose breast structure has not developed due to chest wall anomaly.
Breast augmentation surgery can be performed to replace the lost tissue after previous oncological breast diseases.
In addition to these situations, breast augmentation surgeries with prosthesis can be performed to create breasts during the sex change process.
To insert the breast implant, your surgeon may make a single incision (incision) in one of three possible locations:
In the crease under your breast (inframammary)
Under your arm (axillary)
Around your nipple (periareolar)
After the incision is made, the surgeon will separate your breast tissue from the muscles and connective tissue of your chest. This creates a pocket behind or in front of the outermost muscle of the chest wall (pectoral muscle). The surgeon will place the implant in this pocket and center it behind the nipple.
After the implant is in place, the surgeon will close the incision (the incision he made) with sutures and bandage it with skin glue and surgical tape. Choosing the incision site is important to minimize scar formation.
Pain and swelling may occur for several weeks. Bruising may be observed. Scars fade over time, but may not completely disappear.
While healing, it is necessary to wear a compression bandage or sports bra to provide extra support to the breast implants and maintain their positioning. Your surgeon will recommend the bra needed. Pain control can be easily controlled with painkillers prescribed by our physician.
You should carefully follow your surgeon’s instructions about returning to your routine life. If you don’t have a physically demanding job that requires your body to work actively, you can return to work within a few weeks. You should avoid strenuous activities that raise your heart rate or blood pressure for at least two weeks. As you heal, remember that your breasts will be sensitive to physical contact or jerking movements.
If your surgeon has used non-absorbable sutures (stitches) or has placed drainage tubes near your breasts, you will need a follow-up appointment to have it removed.
If you notice warmth, redness, or a fever in your chest, you may have a surgical infection. In such a case, you should contact your surgeon as soon as possible. Likewise, in cases of shortness of breath or chest pain, a surgeon should be consulted without delay.
Silicone surgery takes about 1-1.5 hours. You will be allowed to go home on the day of surgery or the next day after your discharge procedures. The first four days should usually be spent resting. During this period, you may have different complaints depending on whether the prosthesis is placed behind the muscle or in front of the muscle. The pain is not much, but the feeling of fullness may bother you for a few days.
There is some swelling in the first three days, and it starts to decrease from the fourth day. We call this edema after breast aesthetics. After prosthesis surgeries placed under the breast or chest muscle fascia, discomfort caused by arm movements is less.
After the prosthesis placed under the muscle, the discomfort caused by arm movements is more. In order to reduce this discomfort, not keeping the arms still and continuing with non-heavy daily activities (such as dressing, undressing, combing hair, personal care) will reduce the feeling of discomfort.
These complaints are reduced by a massage after the bath, which is usually done on the third day. Depending on the skin and muscle quality of the person, the process of decreasing the complaints may vary.
On the next day of your surgery, only a skin-colored band is left where the silicone is placed. No other dressing is done. On top of that, you put on the sports bra directly.
On the third day, you can take a shower without removing this tape. On the 14th day, we remove this tape under your control. Then we start the scar treatment. The breast is shaped with a sports bra to be used for one month after the surgery.
After breast prosthesis (breast silicone) applications, activities that require intensive use of the chest muscle and arms should be strictly limited for the first three weeks and gradually increased after this period.
Before the first month, games with a lot of arm movement such as tennis and heavy sports are not allowed. Sauna, pool, solarium and steam bath should be avoided within 6-8 weeks following breast augmentation surgery.
